L'ile d'Orleans in Canada

Bienvenue Welcome

Welcome to our Intrepid Roots. I hope you enjoy and appreciate the trials, stories and pictures of our family as much as I have in researching and gathering them.

The fortitude of our ancestors; their sacrifices and hard work; their dedication to family, God and Church, are the reason we survive today.

They were audacious explorers, proud, bold, fearless and daring....... Intrepid!

This is their story. This is our heritage. Enjoy!

Decades ago I started on a quest to learn more about my family. What was their story? Where did they come from. Who were they? What was their life like?

Now I often reminisce with others about our own life growing up, how simple it was, rewarding and fun despite the hard work; how we miss those who are gone and wish we had paid more attention to the stories of their lives here and elsewhere.

We laugh when the stories are recounted. We find old pictures and have no idea who the people in them are. We sometimes cry when we think of those gone before us, but always, we are happy to share these tales with our family and friends.

I am in the midst of writing a book, gathering stories, facts, sources, photos to share with all, but that dream may never occur. We don’t know God’s plan for us. Many of the family are gone already and we continue to age. This website is an effort to share what I have with you now, so you may learn and share with your families.

Some of the  information is not 100% verified yet, so there may be errors, and of course  there is always more to learn. This is but a start to the story of our family journey.  Please be sure to let me know if you find any errors or inconsistencies, or have any information to add. I will continue to add to it slowly.

I still plan to write our book and have done years of research, so would ask that the info be shared with family and friends only, not submitted for publication in any written form.

The value of family is priceless. They form us and make us who we are. I hope you are as proud of them as I am.

Our Lavigne-Cyr Family

The Lavigne-Cyr Family was founded on May 25th, 1979 when Robert Edward Cyr married Diane Priscilla Lavigne.

Sometimes it seems like the time went by so fast and sometimes it seems like it's been a long, long time, but always, it makes us who we are today..

My family and the Bennett family grew up in Lyman together. We went to the same school, church, played sports on the same teams and often worked together. We were close while growing up in the small town and so, of course, we were invited to the wedding of Robert’s cousin, Kathy.

Robert (Bob) and I started dating as the result of a double date set up after we both attended this same wedding. It was a hot day in August. My family left early to go “haying”. We never met there but Bob  asked his cousin, Steve, who the girl in the red polka dot dress was. It was me.

The rest is history.

Our first date we saw Jaws (the original). That’s how long ago this was. I remember the date clearly. The second date was bowling, which is almost an extinct sport now. We dated about four years as I was determined to attend nursing school at St. Mary’s in Lewiston and  finish. I didn’t plan to marry at a young age.  I wanted to be sure to complete my education and become a nurse first.

Bob invested in property and paid on it while I was in school. He  and his dad cleared the land planning for our future.  We married shortly before my graduation from nursing school in May of 1979.

A year later, we moved into our own home with two dogs, who were like our children. The second year of our marriage, we had our first child. Over the past forty years, the Cyr  family has grown significantly. We now have four beautiful daughters and one grandson.  My husband finally has a boy in the family and the rest is history.
